Our Preference Floors catalogue contains 15 active engineered timber products plus one unpublished draft excluded from this study. The active ranges include different timber faces and 2mm, 3mm, 4mm and 6mm wear-layer constructions. These are real timber surfaces, not laminate abrasion-rated products: choose by material, aesthetic, suitable installation method, grading and room conditions, not an imaginary AC rating. The named parquetry ranges deserve installation-focused comparisons.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
For a broad plank in a genuine oak finish, compare Prestige Oak, Village Oak and De Marque wide plank. For richer Australian hardwood grain, review Fiddleback and the Hardwood Collection; for Hickory, Elk Falls has a 14/2mm construction. For a patterned timber look, compare Pronto/Fiddleback/De Marque herringbone and De Marque chevron, paying attention to set-out and installation complexity. The 21/6mm De Marque herringbone is a thicker construction but that alone does not establish acoustics or suitability.

The details that matter.
Warranty, moisture and everyday use
Face-layer thickness varies from 2mm to 6mm across our listings; it does not specify a guaranteed number of future sanding/refinishing operations. Species, coating, core and installation all affect suitability. Most products in our catalogue have no manufacturer wet-rating entered: do not call them waterproof, or interpret 'not rated' as proof of no surface protection. Warranty coverage and underfloor heating rules differ by range. Exclude unpublished products from customer-facing analysis.
Before installation
Assess whether an engineered timber product is click-floating or tongue-and-groove glue-down, especially herringbone and chevron. Confirm moisture barrier, subfloor condition, acclimatisation, expansion allowances, permitted heating, grading and selection of suitable adhesives from the named supplier TDS. Compare actual installation cost and wastage for parquetry, not just per-square-metre material cost.
Important heating exclusion: Preference Floors explicitly states that the Fiddleback Australian Hardwood range, including Herringbone, Smooth and Rustic, is NOT suitable for installation over any type of underfloor heating. Do not generalise other engineered oak products' in-slab hydronic approvals to Fiddleback.
